Somalia Hit by Suicide Bombings
Islamist militants take responsibility
On Saturday, Oct. 13th, 2018, al-Shabaab terrorists carried out a twin suicide bombing in the heart of the Somalian city of Baidoa claiming the lives of at least 22 civilians and wounding more than 30 others. The first blast took place at a popular restaurant, with the second coming just minutes later at a nearby hotel. With regional elections coming up, the attacks are seen as an attempt to undermine the relative stability Baidoa has enjoyed in recent years.
Al-Shabaab’s recent activity
Al-Shabaab, which has pledged loyalty to ISIS, staged an offensive beginning in 2008 in which it captured a number of Somalian cities and villages including Baidoa. While suffering a series of defeats at the hands of Ethiopian, Somali, and Kenyan troops aided by American drone strikes, the terrorist group has continued staging occasional incursions and suicide bombings. In 2017, it carried out a twin suicide bombing in Mogadishu, killing more than 500 people.
TAR’s offers solution to terrorism threats
TAR Ideal offers government security agencies an integrated solution to the terrorist threat, one of the biggest issues facing the world community today.
Its SAFE CITY intelligence platform allows personnel to identify potential threats, follow their activities, and deter an attack from taking place. The EYES FROM ABOVE aerial surveillance system provides around-the-clock aerial monitoring of densely-populated urban centers. TAR also offers a large variety of intelligence, monitoring, and analysis platforms for monitoring national security threats.
Some of the countries facing the most serious terror threats lack the required training and equipment to prevent major attacks from taking place. As a result, they are forced to deal with the social upheaval and economic instability that usually follow.
TAR offers a one-stop solution for forming SWAT/counter-terrorism units from the ground up and training them to carry out complex missions. TAR’s instructors have real-life battle experience, allowing them to provide recruits the top level of hands-on coaching. Included in TAR’s counter-terrorism training are: precision shooting courses, K-9 training, hand-to-hand combat instruction, bomb disposal training, and more.
As public transport has become a popular target for terrorist attacks, TAR offers a solution for airport security featuring advanced technology such as Video Analysis and Early Warning systems. Paired with TAR’s physical perimeter that includes security fences and screening devices, this system provides an integrated solution to airport threats.
